Stan Wawrinka has only one year left of his professional tennis career.
Wawrinka is a three-time Grand Slam champion, having won singles titles at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and the US Open.
The Swiss is still competing on the ATP Tour at 40 years old, with Wawrinka being the oldest winner of a tour-level match in 2025.
After competing as a professional tennis player for 23 years, Wawrinka has announced he will be retiring in 2026 and his long-term coach has now reacted.

Stan Wawrinka receives message from his long-term coach
Former Roland Garros finalist Magnus Norman has been the most prominent coach in Wawrinka’s career, and they are currently in their third spell of working together.
Norman has helped Wawrinka win all three of his Grand Slam titles, as well as his sole Masters 1000 triumph at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2014.
With just one final year of working together as player and coach, Norman has written a message to Wawrinka on social media praising his achievements.
Norman said on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Three-time Grand Slam champ in the big four era. Davis Cup champ. Olympic champ. One final push together. One final year. Can’t wait to get started!”
Why do you think Stan Wawrinka was never considered to be on the same level as Andy Murray?
Wawrinka is not the only player retiring next year, with Gael Monfils also announcing that 2026 will be his farewell year.
Will Stan Wawrinka play the Australian Open?
Wawrinka won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 2014, but he is yet to confirm his participation at the tournament for one final time.
As the current world number 157, Wawrinka is unable to receive direct entry into the Australian Open main draw and would have to play qualifying if he does not receive a wildcard.
The Australian Open have announced their latest batch of wildcards, but Wawrinka is still yet to feature.
Who will win the 2026 Australian Open?
However, there are still three wildcards from the men’s singles draw to be announced, with Wawrinka a likely candidate to receive one as a former champion.
While his Australian Open participation currently remains in the air, Wawrinka has confirmed he will play elsewhere in the week of qualifying, suggesting that he is expecting to receive a wildcard.
